May 2010 -
Mexico continues to struggle with drug related violence.
While we have not had any direct attacks on any of our
staff, it does affect everything we do. Praise the Lord
for his protection in that area!!
There are several very exciting things happening lately.
One of the areas that has really grown is working with
a group of Huichol Indians near Tepic, MX. These dear
people were evicted from their home village a few years
ago because of their faith in Christ. They have grown
spiritually and have been making monthly evangelistic
trips back to their "home" village, a two day
trip one way by ground vehicle & boat. The past few
months we have been flying them in each month which gives
them three more days each month to work instead of travel.
It's such a joy to see them have a burden to reach their
own people without any prodding from anyone but the Holy
Spirit.
Last month I got to spend some time with another missionary,
Kenny VanKirk, who is working among the Tepehuan Indians.
Kenny is the most incredible, faithful people I know.
He is an American but also got his Mexican citizenship
and went to medical school in Mexico. He has built a clinic
out in the mountains and his team is also working on Bible
translation and literacy. I could write a book about his
work, but it is such a privilege to have a small part
in what God is doing among the Tepehuan.
The last couple weeks we got involved in a non-traditional
way to minister to a Tohono O'odham indian couple close
to Tucson. One of our other UIM missionaries met Mike
about three years ago when he was stranded along side
the road. A friendship developed and we have been able
to establish a relationship with them. Mike and Josaphine
are in their 80's. The roof on their house has been leaking
so bad that part of the mud wall was eroded away and they
couldn't live in the house. The whole aviation crew was
able to construct a whole new roof for them in about 5
days. They can now move into their "new" house
and have a dry house and a house that will last many more
years as long as they need one. Pray for them as they
are not yet believers. Hopefully this is just another
way that they can experience God's love in a practical
way.
Thanks for your interest, prayers, and support. We love
you and thank God for you.
In His service,
Tim
